The Holy Week: Days of Redemption

In your life do you  often ask these questions? Who will help me through in my life? Who will accompany me in my journey to God? God Himself  is the answer to these questions. We find God’s answer in what we are celebrating today, the  Palm Sunday or the Passion Sunday.  As Jesus entered Jerusalem in a donkey, the people went running to meet Him as they shouted, “HOSANNA!” which means “we pray, save us!

When the people were shouting as He entered Jerusalem, "We are happy because God Himself." Pray, save us!

Jesus entered Jerusalem and the people joyfully met Him holding palm leaves, shook them as Jesus passed by. This same scene is re-enacted every year, and we did just that earlier.

During Palm Sunday we hear the longest  Gospel read to us. It  tells us about the  whole story of Christ’s suffering, His passion, his death and  his resurrection. The days of the Holy Week are very important days in all the days of the whole year  because we celebrate liturgically the Paschal Mystery; the passion, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If we look at the life of our Lord Jesus, it was within that week where all these events  happened. That is why it is called Holy Vatican II says,  in order for  Jesus  to fulfill His mission: to save and redeem mankind , he  offered his life .He gave to God the most perfect glory and he was able to achieve for us the Redemption  which  we proclaim, “By dying He destroyed our death, by rising He restored our life.” Before his suffering and death , nobody could enter the Kingdom of God. But after his Resurrection the doors of Heaven opened and  our life in God is restored.
