The Bishop as a Retiree

Even before the mandatory age of retirement Bishop Cabrera is happy to retire at 67 years old after serving the Diocese of Alaminos  for 22 years. After his retirement he returned to his hometown in Mangaldan and is happy to reconnect to Malabago,  the community he left behind when he was 12 years old to enter the Minor seminary.

His retirement from the Diocese has since become more of a break from the administrative responsibilities of his office. He remains tireless in fulfilling the three-fold office of Jesus: preaching the Gospel, administering Sacraments, incorporating new members into His body and directing  and guiding  the people on their journey to eternal salvation. (LG.21)

Now, he fulfills the mandate given by Jesus  not within "bounds" of even the structure of the hierarchy!

·         He celebrates Mass in his home parish and enjoys going to the barangays to administer the Sacrament and  to teach the people about God.

·         He is invited by different groups and organizations  within and outside of the Parish,  to give recollection, facilitate  retreats or to give catechetical instructions , teach  how to read and understand the Bible

    ·          He continues serving the poor through the Galikin Community Center, a  facility  that provides opportunity  to  people especially the  poorest of the poor ,enable them to  reclaim their dignity as human persons,  organize and empower  families and   communities  as   catalysts  of  change, and  make Christ present among them.
