And whom do you serve? Whom do you give priority? You
look for the poorest of the poor, you look for those who really are
downtrodden. Serve them. Love them even
if they cannot repay you back, that would even be better. For surely, at the
end of your life, and on Judgement Day,
you will hear Christ’s words, “Come enter into the Kingdom of God, for when I
was sick, thirsty, and
was hungry, you served me, you helped me. (Mt. 25: 34-36) And further,
He will say, “what ever you do for the least of my brethren you do it unto me.”
(Mt.25: 40) And this makes us
understand that at the very last moment of His Life, Jesus gave us the most
important commandment. In fact he called
it : My commandment. The commandment of LOVE. Is this really a new
commandment? What is new in this
commandment? It is what he said, “Love
one another as I have loved you.” (Jn.13:34) .
The example of Jesus is what we should
emulate. To spend our life serving other people, giving ourselves to God by
giving ourselves to others. And this would be the mark of our love for them,
loving them the way Christ loved them. The standard of loving others, is how
Christ loves us-unconditional.
