Take note my dear friends with
what Jesus said, “this is my body…this is my blood…” What really happened? By the power of the Lord, the bread became
his body and the wine became His blood. And Christ added, “Do this in memory of
me." He also gave his apostles the power to do what he has done. By these words,
He ordained the very first priests, -
the apostles themselves.
So that those priests, and even the
priest of today, when they consecrate the bread and the wine, they act in the
person of Christ. And meaning to say, it is Christ speaking in them and through
them. Acting in them a priest says, “this is my body…this is my blood…” This is what happens everytime the
Holy eucharist is celebrated. Jesus
becomes present through the priest who acts in the person of Christ.
And in here, faith is needed.
Because if one will look at the
bread with ordinary eyes , one can see
only the properties of bread: its taste, smell, and color. But with the eyes of faith, the bread
become the body and blood of Christ. It is Christ Himself
under the appearance of bread and wine.
So that what we receive during
communion is no other than Jesus, who is
our Lord and God. If somebody would ask you, “what do you receive at Holy Communion?” It is not enough to say,
“I received the Host!” The right and
the complete answer should be, “I received Jesus Himself, under the appearance
of bread.”
